What led you to me?
Previous call
Was it what you expected?
I knew roughly what to expect from our previous call, but had no idea what to expect from Monty
What were you most surprised by?
How much Monty had to say! I had chosen Reggie as my first call because I felt if any horse was going to communicate it would be Reggie! I chose Monty next because he is Reggie’s field companion so I didn’t want him to feel left out. I also really wanted to hear from him, but was prepared for him to not say much because he was quite shut down when he came to us a few years ago, and he’s not as confident about new things as Reggie. I was amazed by how much he had to say and, as with Reggie, the depth of his conversation. Also I really loved the way their different personalities came through. The conversations definitely reflected the Reggie and Monty I already knew!
Once again, being in the stable was amazing – I wish you could see – I had my chair furthest corner away from Monty’s hay, and he spent most of the conversation standing with his head over me breathing in my ear. When he started licking my arm during a key moment it was spine tingling. Part of my mind is saying I can’t believe this is happening, but at the same time I know I have to stay present and believing so it can continue (I think that’s why Reggie threw my notebook on the floor lol!)
What was the most valuable aspect of your call?
Not one specific thing but just an amazing continuation of this exciting special journey I find myself on!
Has your horse or pony’s behaviour changed following the call?
Yes, I think there is a change in Monty…he seems more confident of being heard. I’ve noticed this in 2 ways. Some horses that are confident in their ability to be ‘heard’ by humans have the ability to summon their human with a focused state, sometimes from quite a long distance (ie. across a field). Monty had never done this prior to the call, but I’ve noticed him doing it a few times since. He also came trotting over to me in the field one day and took me for a walk across the field, nickering all the way. It was just like he knew he could initiate a conversation. Since he came to us a few years ago it’s been like a slow and gentle re-blossoming, and since the call it’s like he’s stepped out of his shadow.
Has your relationship changed as a result?
Yes, I think it has…I’ve realised how much he’s got to say, and he’s realised he really will be listened to.
